100 ways of Pure White Hat SEO Techniques for professional or beginners in 2018

Utilize Authority Sites That Are Ranking For Keywords That You’re Going For
Want to know how I’m ranking number 1 for “Maryland Search Engine Optimization” (over 2k monthly search rate) with zero back links?
I leverage other authority sources that are already ranking for a subject around my main subject which is Maryland.
All I did was look up “Maryland” on Google & went to Wikipedia & found information about Maryland that was hyper specific to that area & included in my page.
The cool thing is that this method can be applied to pretty much anything.
Want to rank higher for any keyword?
….make sure you’re including hyper relevant data for that specific keyword.
Of course there are other factors that come into play but Google seems to compare your content with what other authority & highly relevant web pages are talking about around your subject.
Create a Value Ladder
This honestly should have been tip number one but at any point in your SEO journey this technique should prove to beextremely valuable to you.
In fact this step is so valuable that now after discovering it, I try to provide it to potential or current clients before or after the initial SEO road map I do for them.
Here’s how it works:
In any value ladder you should have multiple stages.
Stage 1: Free content.
Stage 2: Low barrier to entry fee.
Stage 3: Medium level paid content or service.
Stage 4 & up: High level paid content or service.
This is what it looks like (I apologize for my poor drawing skills in paint):
The idea is that you bring your target audience to the ladder with free content & slowly up sell them with the different stages you create in your value ladder.
Here’s what a recent value ladder looks like on a white board for a client I worked with yesterday:
Consider The Value Table
Similar to the value ladder there exists a value table.
The value table consists of multiple value ladders.
Here is another poor illustration of said table:

HEY don’t call my table stupid, I’m going to show you how this can be EXTREMELY valuable to you or anyone you’re helping.
Think of it this way, you have your first value ladder where you offer the following:
Step 1: Free content
Step 2: Paid SEO Audit for $200
Step 3: SEO Implementations from road map for $750 & up
…You’re making money! Time to celebrate right?
What you have right now is a liability…
…You have a 1 legged table.
What happens if your one leg breaks in the unforeseeable event that SEO dies.
WELL YOU’RE OUT OF LUCK
That’s why it’s important to create separate assets so that if one value ladder does indeed break, well you got other legs to hold that table up.
Furthermore, the more ladders you have (or legs for your table) you can cross promote these different assets & have them feed each other.
Build Funnels to Online Assets
(Killing 20 Birds With One Stone)
Don’t be like most people who only “kill 2 birds with one stone” in the SEO industry.
You want to drive your traffic not only up the value ladder but also opting in your other free assets along the way.
These assets can include:
The idea is to not let your traffic hit your page & leave never to return again.
We want to funnel our visitors to our other channels as well to accomplish the following along the way:
Be able to remarket our brand & blog posts.
Sell said visitors up the value ladder in case they don’t initially opt in from one of our initial funnels.
Most importantly, have traffic that we can control.
If you use something like a content upgrade you can grab emails & funnel people to a specific channel at the same time.

Review Generation Through Content
Most people try to generate reviews with manual outreach to past clients who likely don’t care to leave a review.
Right now I’m going to show you how I’ve been able to achieve over 100 reviews in under 2 months.
Remember those “controllable assets” I talked about in the last tip?
You can use those to assets to start asking the people you gave your free content to (the first step in the value ladder) to leave you a review on the stuff you give away for free.
This works 100% more effectively because when you give something away for free, people are WAY more likely to want to give back.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Welcome people to your Facebook group after you hit a certain threshold (usually after about 50 people ask to enter I will let that wave in & welcome them all at once by tagging their names)
Step 2: Hover over their names hit message & say:
“(name), I saw you joined the Facebook group! Could I ask you for a huge favor? If you could leave me a quick review about the SEO I teach I would be forever grateful! Chase (insert pleper link for auto 5 star popup on Google) or alternatively you can funnel them into other review sites like Yelp, Facebook, Trust Pilot, etc.”
Stop Focusing On Just One Keyword
So a client comes to you & says, “How long will it take you to rank me for (insert target keyword)?”
At this point you have my permission to reach over the table & slap them in the face.
Those who are focusing on just ranking for one keyword or a few keywords these days are totally out of the loop.
Sure, its AWESOME to rank for a highly valuable keyword but it’s not the only thing you should be focusing on in your SEO strategy.
There is SO much more.
Consider this road map I made for a client:
Nowhere do I say, “and here we focus on just one keyword”
…These days SEO is about so much more than ranking.
Everything is shifting to UX (User Experience), UI (User Intent), & Authority building.
I could create an entire other 5,000+ word post ranting about this but I will save you from that for the moment.
Frequent & Relevant Updates
(WITH VALUABLE CONTENT)
This white hat SEO technique actually dovetails off crawl rate optimization as your site will actually get crawled more frequently if you regularly update your site with content.
Here are some more reasons why creating frequent & relevant updates helps your site:
You get content to link from & to. If you haven’t noticed, I’m a big fan of on page link building.
You get more content to rank for & more content to share.
Your site get’s better understood by Google when you create relevant content for your niche. One word I recently heard for this is called, “Topical Seeding.”
Another overlooked strategy is taking old content & relaunching as new content.
This technique is actually something that Brian Dean does very well.
Basically all you have to do is look at the content on your site that’s ranking in positions 4-9 through search console.
…and relaunch it as new content!
Before ranking number one in my town for the keywords, “SEO Santa Barbara.” (I gave back the rankings to the agency that I outranked after they hired me) It took me close to 22 title revisions & on page content revisions.
What does this mean?…
Generally, if you can continue to re optimize & relaunch your content for what people are looking for, you can continue to get ranking boosts.
…Most people launch their content once & then never look at it again!
Older content also has a bit more authority because it’s been around for longer & may have even generated more links.
Which is why you should really consider looking at your older content & perhaps consider re purposing it as well with your content relaunch 🙂
Auw yes, how could we leave out Schema.
This is another topic that a lot of people try to avoid.
However, Schema is becoming more & more important & Google is starting really show a liking for Schema.
No, Schema isn’t a direct ranking factor but it can help you improve your CTR’s in many ways.
Some of the best features you can get from using Schema are:
Aggregate rating (having reviews show underneath your organic search results)
Knowledge graph (being listed in position 0 on Google by having correct markup that will help Google better understand what your topic is about)
Knowledge panel (being listed as an organization in Google’s knowledge panel using organization markup)
Local business listings (having Google more heavily trust your local business & show you in the map results for relevant queries using local business markup)
Product markup (show prices, discounts, reviews, & more with product markup)
There are many other things you can do as well with Schema but these are some of the main schema’s implemented today.
Also, if you can try to use JSON-LD over microdata, Google can understand it better. Just make sure if you’re using JSON-LD you can also find that information in your on page content.

Page Speed Optimization
This is huge.
…Google has clearly stated the page speed is a direct ranking factor.
So why overlook it?
(You can even see that I could make improvements on this blog post which would likely improve the rankings & UE metrics)
That’s why you HAVE to get a design that has a fast load time, is responsive, & isn’t bogged down by thousands of plugins.
A great way to see what plugins are hurting your load times is to run the P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler).
Also, if you’re using bad hosting, you’re going to take a massive hit. I personally use WP Engine & it works AMAZING.

- Frequent Audits
So you have a website or a client & you just don’t know what to do next?
One of the things that a lot of people overlook is what can be uncovered just by simply performing a new audit.
…You might say, “but Chase I just did an audit for them 2 months ago.”
Doesn’t matter, you can always uncover new things as you can see here with Screaming Frog:

- Expert Round Up’s
This technique is actually over utilized in the SEO industry but in most other niches it’s not.
An expert round up is outreaching to authority figures in your target niche & asking them to contribute their two cents about a certain subject.
The reason these posts work so well is:
The outreach is easy to automate.
You can get tons of content & turn these posts into skyscraper like articles.
You have high chances of getting these authorities to link back to you or share your article on social media.
People are more likely to read these posts because the information is very valuable.
If you want to do one of these posts, I’d recommend combining them with your own native content sort of like what I did with my Complete Guide to SEO for 2018 mainly because you get extra content & possible links / shares to a piece of content that’s centered around your own blog post.
You also stand out from what people are doing with expert round ups which only include expert tips & not much native content.
- Click Through Rate Optimization
…There’s a little trick you can do with search console that I touched on earlier in the on page SEO tips.
To elaborate, if you look at your search console & click on a page that’s getting tons of clicks put isn’t ranking in the top 3 spots on Google, you can actually improve the CTR’s by adding something called qualifiers.
Qualifiers are things that qualify people to read your article…
More specifically, your target audience.
You can find out what your target audience actually wants by seeing what your article is showing up for & seeing the queries with the highest CTR’s.
All you have to do is include those high CTR variations in your titles & meta & BAM (in most cases) you should see a way higher CTR on your article.
Bonus tip: I like to add parentheses in my titles to really highlight what people are going to get. Brian Dean has proven that this also improves CTR’s.
- Competitive Link Sniping
If you want to get some really valuable…
…highly targeted links you can use this method.
All you have to do is find articles that are getting tons of linkswith a tool like Buzz Sumo
Plug that article into a tool like Open Site Explorer or AHREFS
…Grab all the links that are pointing to that article by downloading a CSV.
Once you have the export, plug those links into a tool like Pitchbox & start emailing these bloggers offering them your similar article that may be a good addition to the post they are already linking from to your competitor.
- Long Tail or LSI Optimization
You may already know this but you can get some serious traffic by optimizing for not one but multiple keywords.
Furthermore, you can optimize for key phrases. Also known as, latent semantic indexing key phrases or (LSI)
LSI phrases are what Google semantically see’s that other people are looking for around the subject you’re searching.
You can find these phrases by plugging your main keyword into LSI Graph or by simply typing your keyword(s) into Google & scrolling to the bottom where Google show’s it’s related LSI phrases.
…One of the best ways to optimize for LSI & long tail key phrases is to create long form content (2000 + word pages or posts.)
- Broken Link Building
What better way to get links then by replacing broken outdated links with fresh relevant content that you created!
One of the best way to do broken link building is to crawl popular blogs with Xenu & see if they have any broken relevant links that you could replace your article with.
Then you can outreach either via contact forum or use the email hunter chrome extension to find contact info & let them know.
…Brian Dean’s also has an awesome technique called the moving man method that I suggest you also read up on.
- Stockpile SEO Method
This is actually a phrase I coined myself.
The whole idea behind doing stockpile SEO is to look for articles that may become important in the future & start optimizing for them before hand.
Generally, if you can get the user signals high before your competitors do, you will have better chances ranking long term.

- Citation Building
Although widely debated, citations do matter for all websites.
Not just local…
Rand Fishkin did a video on just this which hopefully is evidence enough for you.
The idea behind this is that if you get citations from trusted sources…
…your brand will become more trusted in the eyes of Google as well.

- Clear Call To Actions
On thing that I notice a lot is websites without clear CTA’s.
Especially home pages.
Look, if you don’t want more conversions that’s on you.
But if you do
…you need to realize that a lot of your traffic has no idea what you want them to do.
Which is why you need a clear CTA on your home page & other important pages.
The reason why your home page is so important is because it will likely be one of the most visited pages on your website.
So you need to use that opportunity to tell your visitors what you want them to do.
- Proper Email Opt Ins
Another underutilized technique is proper email opt ins.
…No, not giant banners spamming your visitors saying sign up now for my spam email list where I will annoy the heck out of you.
I’m talking about something that will give your guests TONS of value.
The best way to do this is to offer something invaluable in return for their email.
Which is why the content upgrade is probably the best technique you can use for this.

All you have to do is offer your visitors a free extra resource that will save them time or money & your in!
- Optimization for Mobile / AMP
This is something that I’m sure most of you already know but it has to be apart of this list.
Google is clearly trying to provide the BEST user experience possible.
…and while AMP is certainly not a direct ranking factor as stated by John Mueller, having high user experience signals is.
Also, if you have a sub domain for a mobile website you might want to consider moving that over to a responsive theme as you don’t want to have separate links or content on your mobile website.
- Resource Lists
Another awesome white hat SEO technique you can utilize isbuilding a list of resources that people can use to reference in their blogs.
These lists are way more likely to get links because website owners want to give their audience great info & what better way to do it then by linking to a list of resources you’ve already made.
…You can also combine this technique with the link building methods we talked about earlier & get tons of awesome, highly targeted links.
- Proper Open Graph Data
Another underutilized technique I see is not using proper OG data or taking advantage of the many capabilities that you can use by implementing OG data.
…Mainly the ability to share videos on social media directly from your website.

- Related Words From Co-ocurring terms
(Bill Slawski Contribution)
This approach is one taken from Google’s Phrase-Based Indexing patents.
Take a page that you would like to optimize for a particular query term
…and search for that query term
…and visit the top 10 or 20 ranking pages for that term (for the same sense of the term used on those pages).
Find meaningful phrases that are used on more than one of those ranking pages for that query term, & make a list of them.
Consider adding a number of those phrases (but not necessarily all of them) to the page that you want to optimize for that query term.”
- Focus On The Basics Before Advanced SEO
Before going & learning the entire schema markup library it’s important to know the SEO basics.
The reason for this is, you can do a lot of good by simply fixing basic problems with a website before needing to implement more advanced optimizations like Schema.
Especially if you’re new.
…and even more so if your clients are new.
There’s tons of things you can do to optimize a website but if you don’t get your basics down, your clients are going to drop like flies in a lightning storm.
Which is why I almost always recommend on page SEO & cleaning up thin content / duplicate content pages before anything.

- Keyword Research Done Right
If you’re like most SEO’s you know that keyword research is super important.
One of the things I see a lot of people do is optimize for keywords that are not right for their article.
…Or keywords that have high search rates but low CPC value.
Let me tell you something you may already know, if you optimize your post for a keyword with low CPC value, likely people aren’t going to be converting.
Unless you found the magic spring of untapped keywords with low untapped CPC value of course 🙂
So it’s important to keep in mind two things when doing keyword research.
Can I rank for this because the article I’m making is close enough to what people are searching for for the keywords I’m targeting.
Can I get people to convert into what I’m trying to market with this article.
…If you answered yes to both these questions then you’ve got the Chase seal of approval, you’re good to go!
- Not Being Careful Of Keyword Cannibalization
Nobody likes a cannibal, so don’t let one roam your site.
If you’re not careful, & you create too many articles targeting similar keywords, & your link silo’s are pointing at these different articles with similar anchor text…
…Google may not show both.
Which is why it’s really important that all your content is unique & targeting separate keywords that you’re trying to rank for.
- Category Siloing
Another tactic I see underutilized is siloing from your main, “top of the pyramid” pages on your site to other important pages you’re trying to rank.
If you want Google to understand your site architecture it’s really important to put at least a paragraph (preferably) at the beginning of your page explaining what that page is about
…and having it point to other important related pages or posts.
- Conversion Funnels
As some of you probably know, you can set up conversion funnels in Google analytics.
That means you can track where people are dropping off on your site in a multi level buying process.
This is extremely important because you can find out where & why people are dropping off in your funnel & start taking steps to improve said funnel.
- Switch to SSL
Although this isn’t necessarily a white hat SEO strategy, this is something that needs to happen for all sites ASAP.
Even John Mueller said in a recent tweet (which I can’t seem to find) that even though SSL is a pain to switch over to, you should bite the bullet & move over as soon as you can.
…Moreover, Google is showing “site not secure on their chrome browser” & you really don’t want your viewers seeing that & bouncing.
- Multi Media
Want to keep your users on your site for longer & make your content more shareable?
Making sure that you’re adding pictures, video, & awesome design to your posts will really up your authority when it comes to content.
Which is why it can really help to hire someone off of fiver or upwork (or if you have the money hire a professional) to help you create custom graphics for your post.
- Not Using PBN’s
(Private Blog Networks)
This is huge right now.
I get tons people asking me how to correctly use PBN’s.
I always reply with…
…”The best way to utilize PBN’s is to not use them.”
…Because they are black hat & Google has said for years now not to buy links.
and with Google’s Penguin 4.0 update is getting harder & harder to not get hit with a penalty by using PBN’s.
Just don’t do it.
- Staying Away From Over Optimization
The other thing I see on a lot of sites is either under optimization or over optimization.
Over optimization happens when inexperienced SEO’s do some of the following:
Put way too many internal links on a page.
Keyword stuff in every heading, title, paragraph, alt tag, & link they can.
Building way too many pages with similar content to try & achieve topical seeding but end up having their content cannibalized
Focusing on quantity of quality. (This is a bit of a grey area)

- Stop Using So Many SEO Tools
…I get it.
You want to use the best tools possible so that you can achieve the best results.
But you have to realize that if you use too many tools & only rely on them alone, you will actually be wasting your time.
Think about it this way…
If you go to the gym & work out every day & don’t take any supplements, you will still likely get buff.
If you take supplements every day but don’t go to the gym, you’re likely not going to achieve any results.
Which is why you have to rely mainly on your SEO knowledge & use tools to get a small competitive advantage.
…SEO tools are meant to amplify not implement.
- Follow The Right Information
It’s so easy to get sucked into the massive vortex of misinformation & unreliable SEO tactics.
That’s why it’s important to tune into the people who are actually achieving massive results & who are heavily involved in the SEO industry.
That’s why I like to follow:

- Realize That You Can Always Be Useful
It doesn’t matter whether you’re starting out or you’re a seasoned veteran of SEO.
You’re always going to know more (or less) than somebody else out there about a certain topic.
…Even if that just means optimizing page titles for clicks!
So try not to compare yourself to the SEO legends out there who are getting millions of people to their site.
Remember, they were just like you at one point.
Anything is achievable if you work for it.
Just remember, you have to BEGIN to work for it.

- No More 80 / 20 Rule. Go 99 / 1
In order to really stand out you have to just start giving stuff away.
No, I don’t mean your car but with the over saturation of free information out there it’s hard to direct sell things that people can easily get for free.
So instead of trying to direct sell your products 20% of the time, just keep giving away free valuable information & people will start to convert at a way higher rate.
Why is this?
…Because people want to know that the stuff you’re sharing with them isn’t just a sales pitch.
They want to actually extract value from your what you’re offering & then go & convert within the free information you’re giving them.
The one percent you ask? This is the offer they can’t refuse no matter what.
This offer is so good that you only have one of it & it’s gone.
No, i’m not talking about the one time offer you have every week.
I’m talking about taking the huge email list you have because tons of people decided to opt in & pitching them the best thing you have to offer for the year.
- Take A Break
…Another underutilized SEO technique that even I don’t use enough.
There’s actually a study that’s been done which has proven that breaks & meditation help you in tons of way & amplify mental clarity / decisions making abilities ten fold.
- Start Listening To Podcasts
Not only is it important to read about SEO but by hearing people talking about SEO or psychology you will actually enable yourself to view your techniques & marketing in different ways.
It’s also really important to start associating yourself with winners.
Just by listening to people who are really knowledgeable about what they do you will eventually begin to act like these people as well.
Just like Jim Rohn says: “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
So make sure those people are winners.
- Learn A Little Bit About Related Niches
Although you don’t have to know anything about social media or search engine marketing to be good at SEO,
…it helps you understand different marketing funnels & more importantly what’s possible for your business.
The other important factor is that you will know what to look out for when hiring someone to help you with your social media when you decide to get the help.
There are people out there who get almost all of their traffic / sales from social media & next to nothing from organic. Which is why this topic really shouldn’t go overlooked.

- Click Funnels
If you haven’t checked out click funnels yet, you need to finish reading this article & setup an account.
Click Funnels gives you the ability to up sell any product or service you may offer with amazing templates that have already been proven to work.
…Here’s a recent funnel I launched on my, “How To Generate SEO Clients” course.
This funnel has already brought in over $5,000 in sales in just a few days.
These funnels can be utilized to further propel your organic strategy by up selling your audience with paid courses you may offer.
You can of course take that extra revenue & customer base & use that fuel your new content with advertising or remarketing.
Here’s step 1 to setting up a great funnel & an SEO plan:
- Audience Screening
Step 1 to any great piece of content or click funnels should be audience screening.
…I personally build out online assets first like Facebook groups, email subscribers, & Youtube subscribers to make this process a lot easier.
Once you have an audience all you have to do is ask them what they need.
For instance, you can see here I asked my audience what they needed from a paid course:
…After this first screen I figured out what my target audience needed I asked how much they would pay for a solution:
Thus, I created my course which targeted exactly these two things.
The awesome part is that you can do this for pretty much any industry & any sort of content you’d like to produce.
- Branding + Social Social Signals
I have tons of people come to me & say, “Chase, I don’t need social media. My audience isn’t on social media because my business is mainly XYZ & (insert excuse for why they wouldn’t have Facebook.”
Let me clue you in on something.
There are over 1.8 billion people on Facebook.
and that number is still growing…
Either way, social signals are a thing & we know for sure Google indexes Tweets.
So it’s important not to overlook what you can be doing on social.
Here’s what I recommend:
Get a buffer account for $10 a month & get a months worth of posts scheduled. What I like to do is schedule my different blog posts & feature reviews I get from my GMB location.
Social Media Optimization: Make sure your brand is consistent & is optimized to convert visitors into whatever funnel you’re promoting with CTA’s.
Start looking into automation. I know, this is a bit grey, but unless you have a team to do all the legit social media for you, some of this stuff may have to be a little automated. & no, I’m not saying start using web 2.0’s to create tons of tier level accounts to automate syndication for you. I’m talking about using stuff like managed flitter, crowdfire, & instagress to help you reach more people by automating your interactions.

- Crawl Rate Optimization
A huge problem I see a lot of these days is duplicate content.
It’s really important that you spend time optimizing your site architecture to tell Google not to crawl / index thin or duplicate content pages.
Google likes to see that all the pages on your site are high quality & if it can’t see that, it’s going to crawl your content a lot less frequently.
This is especially important for eCommerce sites & I could dedicate an entire other article to just this.
- Re-purposed Content
One of the things I see a lot is that people will do one blog post share it on Facebook, Twitter, & Google +, email a friend or two, & then call it a day
There is so much more you can do with that blog post!
In an ideal situation, this is what you can do for your article:
Turn article into slide share & submit to Slideshare
Present slides on a Youtube video & rank in the second largest search engine in the world for similar keywords.
Turn article into a Podcast discussion by presenting the main points which you can debate or contribute to a discussion.
Turn into an Infographic which you can also list on the post & highly increase your chances of getting links.
Use as cornerstone content by generating link silo’s
Use for broken link building via Pitchbox

- Build Out Case Study’s With Road Maps
If you haven’t created road maps for your clients there’s a huge opportunity lost at hand.
How are you supposed to SEO a site if you don’t know what’s wrong with it?
You’re losing out on a list of deliverables you can send to your client each month to show what’s been fixed.
Your losing out on documenting case study’s & getting free content for your site or for other channels.
You lose correlation data for the things you’re fixing & why those things will lead to higher rankings & ultimately UX & UE.
You can use the audit to give to your implementors to streamline the process.
That’s why I always save my audits because I know I can create huge case study’s showing exactly what’s been fixed for certain clients & then feature the correlation data for other potential clients while simultaneously ranking that content on Google or other search engines.
The best part?
Because I generally audit small sites I only have to spend an hour working on what needs to be fixed for month 1 & then do another audit after the first has been fixed.
Here’s what one of my audits looks like:
- On homepage no H1 tag
- Title tag & meta is different from old website
- Content is different from old website
- New home page is not as well optimized as old one
- Authority building should happen on site (start doing link silo’s throughout the site)
- Start doing competitive back link analysis & see if there are any low hanging fruit
- Add schema markup to website
- Internal linking needs to be done from home page
- Big CTA above the fold on home page
- About page on home page is redirecting to blog, this should not be happening
- Reviews should be marked up on home page & also the about page should be filled out a little more with information about company or book
- Should shorten text previews for content to around 55 characters & add pictures if possible
- Should start adding images to blog posts
- Title tags on blog posts are keyword stuffed / over optimzied
- Should be heading tags in blog posts
- No blog post markup on blog posts
- Should switch site to SSL
- A lot of title tags look way too similar & we need to make them look more unique
- Noindex dates on url structure & add rel = next / rel = prev to categories
- Need to figure out if correct redirects are happening from old site to new site
- URL structure for categories should not start with /new/
- No index authors, we have tons of duplicate posts because of this
- Noindex /new/ before categories
- Get rid of uncategorized pages & put them into correct categories
- Get rid of this stuff on side bar (except maybe dates if you need them: Recent Comments
- Only want to use one category per post
- Tons of pages are missing meta descriptions
- Some titles tags are way over character limit, need to shorten these. Also some are under character limit & we want to make these longer
- Response time on some pages are very high, we want to lower these
- Go into links & run disavow on spammy links
- Want to set up rank tracking & conversion tracking to make sure we are making progress to cross check with any implementations that are being made
- Go into search console, identify top terms that are ranking in positions 4-9 & do on page silo’s as well as optimizations more heavily targeting those terms
- Go into any pages that may have higher than 65% BR’s & see what we can do to improve upon experience.
Top 10 Rec’s / First Road Map
- No index huge amount of bloat pages
- Dial in basic SEO for title tags, metas, & alts.
- Setup internal linking / & siloing
- Add rel next & prev tags to paginated pages
- Re-optimize for any valuable keywords that are in positions 4-9
- Run link disenfection
- Track keywords & conversions for cross comparison
- Competitive link analysis / building
- Lower response times on pages that are taking forever to load
- Run broken link checker to find any 404’s or 301’s that may be causing loops

- Building Out Your Authority
So many SEO’s spend all their time trying to make money & forget the fact that they are in an industry where they should be not only building out clients assets but their own.
“But Chase I’m so busy & I don’t have time“…
Let’s get something straight, if you don’t have time then you need to get yourself in a position where you do.
Even when I was broke, living in a garage, & had zero SEO clients, I made time.
Because I knew from being in this industry that I needed to build out my own authority before anything.
Sure you can make money from referrals or a few blog posts & maybe even paid advertising.
The problem is that if you’re working for just the money alone, you may never be able to build out a funnel that fuels itself which you can leverage to make 10x what you’re making now.
I know this is all theoretical but I’m living it right now & I can tell you that YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO NOT BUILD OUT AUTHORITY & ASSETS.
- Branding + Search Engine Marketing
…You can’t get away from SEM these days.
Google has not only made it so that the top four positions on search have the possibility to be ads but they have also made them appear in green instead of yellow.
This change has dramatically improved their CTR’s.
Not to mention they have also been continually adding to the arsenal of extensions you can use which makes ad’s appear even larger on search!
That’s why it might be important for you to start looking into how you can use some of your budget to engage in PPC or at the very least re marketing.
- Streamline The Authority Building Process
So you know you need to build authority but you don’t want to spend countless hours manually building skyscraper content or coming up with a ton of video ideas.
I get it…
I’ve found ways to make this easier…
One way to is to start a Pitchbox campaign where you target anyone who’s ranking for certain keywords in your industry & having emails automatically sent out asking to have these site owners come onto an interview for 30 minutes.
Here’s what ends up happening:
You get content to start ranking on blog posts, podcasts, Youtube, or all three.
You get to leverage other peoples authority & audience to build your own.
You get contacts & relationships with other people in your niche who can end up linking to you or helping you in the future.
Interviews not for you?
…Do an expert roundup instead with the same method.
- On Page SEO
Contrary to popular belief, on page SEO is more important than off page SEO.
Ok, I know what you’re thinking.
“but Chase links are the most important ranking factor.”
This use to be the case but with Google’s changes in AI & turning up the dial on the supposed humming bird, links are proving not to be the most important ranking factor anymore.
The main ranking factors now are: UE (User Experience) & UI (User Intent).
This means that when a searcher on Google looks up the word Panda they will get the rap song they are looking for.
Google is able to tell that most of the people looking up the word Panda want the rap song (user intent) & when they get to the video Google see’s that people are happy with the result by having low bounce rates, high click through rates, & high AVG. time spent on page (user experience).
Google looks at some other stuff like pogo sticking but we won’t dive into that right now.
All I’m saying is try to make sure you have your on page SEO targeting what people are actually looking for, not what you’re trying to sell for any high search rate keyword you can get.
- The Skyscraper Technique
This is by far one of the most underutilized techniques in 2018.
…If you’re unfamiliar with this technique here is a quick overview:
The skyscraper technique is actually a term coined by Brian Dean from Backlinko & it’s used to create massive skyscrapers of content that are proven to give you a HUGE competitive edge in ranking.
I’m talking like 3000 – 5000 word articles.
Or articles like this one which is currently 9,000+ words…
The reason this technique works so well is:
- Google gets more content to crawl & can better understand what your content is about by having tons of related terms on your main subject.
- People are more likely to link to or share long form content.
- Visitors are generally more likely to stick around when they your massive amount of content & Google likes to see positive UX (User Experience) signals.
- Leverage Quora For Q & A’s
This is another awesome technique that will work in virtually every industry.
The idea is that you find relevant & recent questions & answer them on your assets with a link back to that asset.
Here’s how you do it:
Step 1: Go to Google & type in site:quora.com + “keyword”
Step 2: Click Tools & filter from any time to last 24 hours or last week.
Presto you have recent questions you can start answering.
…I even use to this live on my channel before having that many subscribers.
I would click on all the different questions related to SEO & after the video was finished I’d copy the playback time & tell the person on Quora that I answered their question live on Youtube.
This is a unique method that I hardly see anyone using.
Maybe it’s because I figured this technioque out when messing with Google operators.
- Know That Streamlining is More Important Than Making Money
As previously stated, I use to do tons of work on my assets & not make any money.
That’s because I knew if I had certain procedures in place
…the money would come.
I recently went to an SEO conference in Vegas where I listened to SEO’s who are bringing over $100k a month in revenue.
Want to know what the main them I saw in common with these people?
They STREAMLINED everything.
A lot of them were virtually spending no time doing manual tasks & spending all of their time setting up procedures & assets that they knew they could leverage.
- Stop Following The Herd
There’s a difference between seeing what’s working for other people & going for it versus blindly & ignorantly following what they say.
Something else I noticed at this conference was that there were TONS of people using PBN’s & other black hat tactics.
Because “they are working right now”
It makes money
It takes more effort to create value by freely thinking about other ways to make strategies work.
Look i’m not saying reinvent the wheel but I am saying take the good that you can find & use it for your own strategy.
Leave the rest behind.
- User Experience Optimization With Heat Maps
This may be a tip a lot of you already know but in case you don’t you can do some pretty cool stuff with heat maps.
…I personally use Sumome but you can use whatever you like.
The best part about heat maps is that you can see if people are clicking on your CTA’s or other on page elements.
Also, if you have people clicking further down on your pages & you cross check what the average length of your page is read with content analytics (also in Sumome)
You can put those clickable items higher in your post & hopefully keep users on the page longer as well as increase your conversions.
- Influencer Ego Baiting
As discussed previously, you can easily leverage other high authority people’s audiences for your own.
A great way to do this is to ego bait them into sharing an article you created specifically for them.
…I have tried to do this in a past with a few people but I shot a little too high with the people I was targeting.
The idea is to find people with large audiences but not to the point where they will be too busy to take the bait.
Here’s two failed ego bait articles I made about Brian Dean from Backlinko & Rand Fishkin from Moz.
- Leverage Paid Assets To Promote Free Content on Different Channels To Build Authority
Although you can’t get a direct ranking boost from promoting your content with paid advertising you can get indirect ranking benefits.
We know that user experience is huge for 2018 & driving buzz & high interaction rates on places like Youtube can help you rank videos faster.
An example of this is a video I created for, “How To Rank Your Keywords on Google” after asking my Facebook audience what video they’d like to see next.
After launching the video I pointed a paid Adwords campaignto this video.
My likes & views quickly went through the roof & so did my watch time on that video.
Initially the video wasn’t even ranking on the first page & after the campaign it’s not in the number 1 spot.
There of course could be other unrelated factors at play but I do know someone else who use a similar strategy to this.
After most videos that Brian Dean from Backlinko does, he drives his videos user metrics super high from:
Embeding his videos on his website that gets tons of organic traffic.
Doing email blasts to his huge email list.
& of course he has tons of subscribers already which helps.
Even if I’m wrong & the Adwords doesn’t play into it I do know that the people who hit my first video off the ad generally will generally visit more videos afterwards (which should also help with the user metrics)
and even if I’m wrong about that I do know I can put voice CTA’s on these videos where I can tell my audience to go to a certain blog post or share the video, etc. & get indirect ranking factors.
Lastly, you also get to know quickly whether or not your target audience enjoys your content or not. This is especially helpful if you haven’t already established an audience or controlled assets.
Obviously & ideally it all comes down to testing & figuring out what works for you.
- Rank & Rent
This is a very controversial topic & in some cases can be very unethical…
The idea is to rank a website locally & rent the site or the leads out to somebody who can fulfill the work.
I personally tried to become the Uber of computer repair on my old site by ranking & renting tons of locations in different city’s.
I quickly learned that more business management had to be done than SEO at a certain point so I stopped & moved on to only SEO.
If you do want to pursue the rank & rent method I have a free video where I explain how I was able to get rankings in a bunch of different areas.
- Generating Leads With Local SEO
A lot of people go the route of marketing their SEO business locally & stating “I’m number 1 in (area) so you should hire me.”
I personally outranked everyone in my city when I first started SEO & wound up getting tons of leads from it.
The problem with most queries around “SEO in target city” is that a lot of the searches are from other SEO
…who are also trying to rank for the same thing.
Unless you’re in major city’s like New York or Los Angeles, I’ve found that it’s more profitable to rank for searches around web design.
Mainly because you can get someone to white label the web design for you & up sell these clients on the way to buy SEO packages.
- Create Top 10 lists For Target Area + Keyword
This is something that Yelp & other local indexing platforms leverage.
The idea is that you create lists of other companies in an area & put yourself at the top.
…This sort of content is super easy to build & ranks in pretty much every niche.
- Utilize Facebook Groups
Although there are tons of spammy Facebook groups, if you join some of the right ones you can bring in some serious traffic & links.
For instance, a few hours ago put a post out into all my Facebook groups asking for people to put in their top tip for this article.
That’s going to help me with getting more content.
I’ll be able to say that other industry experts are featured in this post.
It drives the social API & signals counts higher.
It drives traffic with a relevant audience to this post.
The contributors will be more likely to link & share the content after it’s published.

With long form content, the writer can go in-detail with every small topic & provide a complete understanding of the subject. One SEO tip I’ve been using with great results is right after I publish a post, I socially share the post with about 8 networks. Then I go back & like my post. With Google Plus & Facebook, I like to go back to my posting & share that link to other niche related groups that I’m a member of. If my post targets low competition keywords, is of quality content, & has a high SEO score with my keyword research took, I find my posts rank in a matter of minutes in the top pages of Google. A great, & often overlooked, way to improve a website’s ranking is simply adding more languages to the site. As search engines focus on providing relevant & local results to users, they will privilege websites offering content in the local language. If your website’s content is translated properly there are much higher chances of it appearing in the local search results. Needless to say, localizing for SEO purposes requires attention to details. it’s crucial to make sure unique URLs exist for each page & for each language, hreflang tags have to be placed correctly & the site map should be updated. To maximise your organic traffic, locate all those phrases which are ranking from position 7 or above & have a solid impression count. They think its a quick way to get new business. & done right, it certainly works. However, there’s definitely an art to blogging, & most of it’s n’t with the writing itself. It’s a term I coined for ranking at the top of social networks & bookmarking sites. Seriously right now I have 8/10 positions on page 1 of Google for a mid to low competition keyword using this tactic (the social properties are all ranking) & it continues to drive new sales & leads month over month. Start with keyword or “trending now” research. Write a 1000-3000 guide then post that guide on LinkedIn, answer a keyword rich question on Quora, & re-create that guide as a video for YouTube. Basically leverage the domain authority & reach of these bigger social networks. Take your finished article & drive traffic to it with Facebook ads or buy a social signals gig, build links to it using a network of choice, & you’ll soon find your guide ranking inside that social network & often times on Page 1 of Google for a long tail variation. Hey, My tip is invest in content. It may sound pretty weird coming from a link building company, but I see way to many sites that have thin / no content. Don’t get me wrong, you can rank without content but if you’re investing in SEO / links, then you’ll see exponential value with content. 1. You can rank easier (long content has been proven to rank better) 2. You can rank for more keywords (more content = more opportunities to rank) 3. My recommendation with this is to crawl the desired site using Screaming Frog, & then create a big spreadsheet with current page titles, meta descriptions, & H1s.
